Sure Step Training and Consultancy is partnering with a well-established, values-led independent school in South West Sydney to appoint an experienced and highly motivated Head of Teaching and Learning – Primary.
This is a significant instructional leadership opportunity for an experienced Primary leader who is passionate about improving teaching practice, developing teacher capability and driving strong student outcomes.
The role has a clear focus on teaching and learning, academic improvement, curriculum, staff development and student achievement.
The Opportunity
Working as part of the Primary leadership team, you will:
- Provide instructional and academic leadership across the Primary School
- Lead initiatives to strengthen student achievement, including literacy and numeracy outcomes
- Use student achievement data to identify priorities, learning gaps and opportunities for intervention and extension
- Lead and support high-quality curriculum planning, implementation and assessment
- Strengthen consistency and quality in teaching practice across Primary year levels
- Conduct lesson observations and provide constructive, developmental feedback to teachers
- Coach and mentor teachers to strengthen classroom practice
- Identify professional learning priorities and lead targeted staff development
- Promote evidence-informed pedagogy, differentiation and effective assessment practice
- Support teachers to use student data effectively to inform planning and instruction
- Monitor student progress and the effectiveness of intervention and extension strategies
- Lead teaching and learning meetings and facilitate the sharing of effective practice
- Support curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements, including NESA compliance
- Contribute to the effective day-to-day academic operation of the Primary School
- Build a culture of high expectations, collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement
What You’ll Bring
- Appropriate qualifications in Primary Education or a related discipline
- Current NESA accreditation or eligibility
- Significant Primary teaching experience
- Demonstrated leadership experience within a Primary setting
- Strong curriculum, assessment and pedagogical knowledge
- A track record of improving teaching practice and student learning outcomes
- Confidence using student achievement data to inform improvement priorities
- Experience coaching, mentoring and developing teachers
- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- A visible, collaborative and instructional approach to leadership
- The ability to build positive and productive professional relationships
- A genuine commitment to working within and supporting the ethos of a faith-based school
- A strong commitment to academic improvement, professional growth and continuous improvement
Particularly Advantageous
- Previous experience in Primary academic or teaching and learning leadership
- Experience leading whole-school or Primary academic improvement initiatives
- Experience in teacher coaching and professional learning
- Strong knowledge of NESA curriculum and compliance requirements
- Experience working within a faith-based or culturally diverse school community
